Quit Drinking – 8 Solutions To Quit Drinking Today!

Quit Drinking – Simple Tips for a Simple Recovery!

I remember the first time I tried to quit drinking. It was my first bottom and it was my first real attempt to quit drinking. Little did I know it was going to be my first of MANY attempts that would take me almost 10 years of yoyo drinking and sobriety, where every “quit drinking” attempt ended in another failure.

Although everyone’s path to how to quit drinking is different, and every solution for how to quit drinking is often a bit unique depending on your drinking history, there is one key similarity. You have to search for answers and be willing to try new things if you want to live a new life without alcohol and quit drinking once and for all.

Here are just a few simple tips for a simple recovery, but be sure to read my quit drinking article I recently wrote called How To Quit Drinking – The Top 10 Resources, for more information.

Quit Drinking Solution #1: Quit Drinking for Yourself

You have to want to take this step in order for your recovering process to have a chance at success. Although the decision to quit drinking involves your friends and loved ones, it is important that you do it for YOU. You have to want this and do this for yourself. If you do not quit drinking for yourself and instead quit drinking for some other reason, you are already placing obstacles in your path to recovery.

Quit Drinking Solution #2: Develop a New Routine

Develop a new routine alcohol free routine. For example start getting up earlier in the morning and include some exercising into your new daily routine. You need new routines in your life to replace your old drinking routines and to finally quit drinking, so think about ways you can change up your life that go hand in hand with a life without alcohol.

Quit Drinking Solution #3: Be Realistic

It is very important that you have realistic expectations. Realistically, there will be bumps in the future when you quit drinking. Bumps that for some may include alcohol. However, it is up to you to deal with this effectively. You do not want to backslide and put all your hard work to waste. Remember, it can take time to change habits that you may have done for years and years, and it isn’t always going to be easy.

Quit Drinking Solution #4: Attitude is Everything

During the recovery process, it’s important to treat the process as something to be enjoyed and not something to be endured. If you can manage to turn the “quit drinking” process into something more enjoyable, you will be surprised to find just how satisfying it can be. However, it does take time for a person in recovery to feel comfortable, so don’t let your attitude get negative if you run into some struggles.

Quit Drinking Solution #5: Get Help from External Sources

Whether it’s a support group, group meeting, or some kind of therapy, getting help from an external source can be very beneficial to any person recovering from problem drinking. The primary idea is to find and utilize something that is outside your normal experience. Do not give in to your own thoughts and methods, especially since those thoughts and methods played a contributing factor to your addiction in the first place.

Quit Drinking Solution #6: Meet New People

For those new to the recovery process, volunteer work can be great for your recovery. Volunteer work is good simply because it can ease your self-absorption and get you to meet new people. This alone will divert your attention in a way, essentially playing a contributing factor in you changing your old routine to a new alcohol free routine. And part of your new life without alcohol, and one of the best ways to quit drinking, is spending time with people that actually don’t drink.

Quit Drinking Solution #7: Improve Your Physical Health

Excessive drinking can most certainly deteriorate your physical appearance and health. If you are in the process of recovering, now is a good time to give some attention to your body – what you eat and the exercise you get. Not only can this help you feel better about yourself, but also greatly affect your ability to enjoy life. You will most certainly find with even just a little sobriety under your belt people will notice you looking healthier and will see a bit of that healthy “glow” return to your face.

Quit Drinking Solution #8: Reward Yourself Every Once in a While

At times, people recovering from problem drinking tend to get so focused on setting goals that they often forget about rewarding themselves for the goals they have already reached. While rewarding yourself, you will also encourage yourself to stay with your new “quit drinking” routine.
